Some bands arrive with a sound. ARCHON arrived with a statement.
Formed in Aarhus in 2020, ARCHON quickly established themselves as one of the most compelling acts to emerge from the Danish metal underground — blending classic metalcore architecture with symphonic weight and punishing breakdowns, drawing early comparisons to Australian titans Polaris and earning recognition from outlets including heavymetal.dk and Metal Hammer UK. The foundation was solid. What came next was something else entirely.
With the arrival of vocalist Mikkel Rützou — formerly of Between Oceans — the band found the final piece of a lineup that now operates as something genuinely dangerous. What began as a temporary arrangement quickly became permanent, the chemistry between Rützou and the rest of the band evolving from convenience into conviction. The result is a group that sounds locked in, hungry, and entirely sure of itself.
That conviction is all over REQUIEM (2024) — the EP that marks ARCHON’s partnership with Last Mile Records and their most fully realized work to date. Mixed and mastered by Chris Kreutzfeldt — the man behind records by Cabal and Cold Night for Alligators — REQUIEM pushes deeper and darker than anything the band had previously committed to tape. The melodic core remains, but it is now wrapped in something heavier: deathcore influence, bleak lyrical introspection, and breakdowns that hit with the kind of force that makes speakers and spines react in equal measure. Bands like Thy Art Is Murder, Architects, Bleed From Within, and Left To Suffer inform the palette — but the sound is unmistakably ARCHON’s own.
For those who want to go deeper, Last Mile Records also released the full instrumental version of REQUIEM — an invitation to hear the architecture of the record stripped bare, and proof that the songwriting holds up without a single word attached.
On stage, they are equally formidable. ARCHON have toured relentlessly across Denmark and Sweden, sharing stages with Cabal, MØL, Ghost Iris, Lifesick, and As Everything Unfolds — a who’s-who of the Scandinavian heavy music scene. Their live show balances the smashed and the beautiful, drawing in crowds with raw energy and holding them there with melodic precision. These are a band built for rooms that smell like sweat and amplifier heat.
ARCHON are exactly the kind of act Last Mile Records exists for: technically formidable, personally grounded, and operating with a clear artistic vision that is only getting sharper. The name, in Greek, means ruler. They are working on earning it — and getting very close.
