Copenhagen riot grrrl punk. Raw, unfiltered, and impossible to ignore.

There’s a particular kind of energy you can’t manufacture — the kind that comes from a band that started not because someone planned it, but because it had to happen. JAKOBE is that band.

Formed in the community spaces around Ungdomshuset on Dortheavej in Copenhagen’s Nordvest district in the wake of the pandemic, JAKOBE — Anton, May, Carla and Stella — are part of a new wave of Danish punk that doesn’t ask permission. Riot grrrl, classic punk, grunge: the labels shift depending on who’s writing, but the intent never does. JAKOBE write music that makes room — for young people, for women, for everyone the genre has historically pushed to the back of the room — and they do it loud.

Their first recorded statement, the three-track demo U-Mixed (2023), was about as unpolished as a release can be — and it didn’t matter. Danish tastemakers took notice anyway, with the band picking up coverage from titles including Soundvenue and Selvtægt off the strength of that single demo alone, an unusually fast ascent for a band that, at the time, was barely out of its teens. Soundvenue would later single the band out as a four-piece known for fusing feminism and girlhood with a classic, unmistakably punk sound.

In 2024, JAKOBE followed up with their full-length debut, Surf N Turf — a sprawling, 19-track statement of intent that landed them recognition as one of the most vital bands in the current Danish punk scene. A run of acclaimed live shows followed, including all-ages shows that underline a band as committed to community as to noise. Early 2025 brought the BETA EP, six new tracks that pushed their sound further while keeping the urgency intact.

We signed JAKOBE in 2025 — not because they fit a trend, but because they don’t. They are, in the words of one Copenhagen venue, standard-bearers for a new generation of the city’s punk scene: carrying the tradition forward while loosening its grip just enough to let more people in.

JAKOBE are currently in the studio recording their forthcoming album with producer Kaspar Boye Larsen — bassist of VOLBEAT — a pairing that brings decades of heavyweight rock craftsmanship to a band that has never needed polish to sound dangerous. Watch this space.
